How we evaluate and score products
This page explains how The Modern Listing scores products, classifies editorial verdicts, sources community feedback, discloses testing conditions, and handles pricing verification.
How products are evaluated
The Modern Listing scores products across usability, features, integrations, value, support, and data portability. The overall score is the equally weighted average of those six category scores, rounded to one decimal place.
These scores are editorial evaluations. They are not averages of ratings from G2, Capterra, Reddit, app marketplaces, or other review platforms.
Score interpretation
Editorial verdicts and team fit
Each review carries two separate fields. The editorial verdict describes our overall assessment using a calibrated label tied to the score range. The Best suited for field identifies the specific audience or use case that fits the product.
These are separate because a product that is situational overall may still be a strong choice for a specific buyer type.

Vendor claims are identified as vendor claims unless independently supported.
Testing disclosure
We only describe a product as hands-on tested when the testing occurred and supporting records exist. When access was limited to documentation, demonstrations, community research, or vendor materials, we state that clearly.
Documented hands-on testing
We used this product directly in conditions representative of real-world use by the intended audience. Supporting records exist.
Product demonstration reviewed
We evaluated the product through vendor-facilitated demonstrations. We observed the product in use but did not test it independently.
Research-based evaluation
Our analysis is based on product documentation, demonstrations, community research, and vendor materials. We did not test the product directly.
Limited verification
This evaluation is based on limited access, partial documentation, or early-stage research. Treat with corresponding caution.
Rating confidence
Each review displays a rating confidence level that reflects how much direct product access and evidence supported the evaluation.
High confidence
Based on sustained hands-on evaluation with live data or production accounts.
Moderate confidence
Based on structured testing that did not cover all production scenarios.
Preliminary
Based on limited testing, demo access, or secondary research only.
Pricing disclaimer
Pricing, plans, limits, and product capabilities can change. Each review displays its latest fact-check date. Buyers should confirm final pricing, contract terms, included services, and cancellation conditions directly with the provider.

Community feedback may be drawn from:

- Public support discussions
- Direct user interviews
We look for repeated themes across multiple sources rather than treating isolated complaints or marketplace star ratings as definitive.
