Editorial standards

How we evaluate technology

The Modern Listing exists because real estate professionals deserve honest guidance on technology. These standards define how we produce and maintain that guidance.

Independent

Commercial relationships do not determine editorial verdicts. No vendor pays for coverage, placement in rankings, or favorable review treatment. If a company advertises on The Modern Listing, that relationship is disclosed and does not influence our evaluation of their products.

  • Review scores are set by the editorial team, not by any commercial relationship
  • Vendors may not preview or approve editorial content before publication
  • We do not accept payment for coverage, access, or positive framing
  • Advertising and sponsorship are clearly labeled and separated from editorial content

Tested when possible

We clearly distinguish hands-on testing from research and analysis. When we test a product directly, we describe the testing conditions and what we evaluated. When we rely on vendor documentation, practitioner interviews, or secondary research, we say so explicitly.

  • Testing status is displayed on every review: Hands-on tested, Vendor demo reviewed, Research-based, or Not independently tested
  • We describe the testing environment and limitations where relevant
  • We do not claim testing we did not perform
  • AI-generated output is checked by a human editor before publication

Transparent

We disclose pricing limitations, sponsorships, affiliate relationships, and uncertainty directly in the relevant article or review—not buried in a footer policy. If we are uncertain about something, we say so.

  • Affiliate relationships are disclosed in the content where they apply, not only in a sitewide disclosure page
  • Pricing is noted with the date it was verified and a note that pricing changes frequently
  • Limitations of our analysis are disclosed—including sample size, testing scope, and market-specific applicability
  • We disclose when we received a vendor review account or product access

Updated

Reviews display publication dates, last-verified dates, and notes about material product changes. Technology products change frequently. A review from two years ago may be substantially incorrect about current pricing, features, or competitive positioning.

  • Every review and guide shows a published date and a last-verified date
  • We review and update content when significant product changes occur
  • When a major update changes our verdict, we note the change history
  • Outdated content is either updated or archived with a notice

Testing status labels

Every review displays one of the following labels to indicate how the product was evaluated.

Hands-on tested

We used this product directly in conditions representative of real-world use by the target audience.

Vendor demo reviewed

We evaluated the product through vendor-facilitated demonstrations. We observed the product in use but did not test it independently.

Research-based

Our analysis is based on practitioner interviews, published documentation, and secondary research. We did not test the product directly.

Not independently tested

This product listing is based on public information only. We recommend verifying claims directly with the vendor before purchasing.

Scoring methodology

We score tools across six criteria on a 1–5 scale. Scores reflect the editorial team's assessment based on available evidence. They are not calculated by formula.

UsabilityEase of setup, daily use, and the quality of the user interface for the intended audience.
Workflow fitHow well the tool integrates into realistic real estate workflows for agents, teams, or brokerages.
IntegrationsDepth and reliability of integrations with other tools commonly used in the real estate technology stack.
ValueQuality relative to price. This is not a low-price ranking—a higher-priced tool that delivers substantially more value can score well here.
SupportQuality and responsiveness of onboarding, documentation, and ongoing customer support.
Data portabilityEase of exporting your data if you leave the platform. Tools that make data export difficult score poorly here.

We do not publish star ratings. Scores reflect informed judgment, not false precision. Two products with different strengths may receive similar overall scores for different reasons.

Affiliate relationships

The Modern Listing participates in affiliate and referral programs for some of the tools and services we cover. When you purchase or subscribe through a link on our site, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.

Affiliate relationships do not influence our editorial coverage, scoring methodology, or verdicts. Tools are scored and reviewed on the same criteria regardless of whether an affiliate relationship exists.

Where an affiliate relationship exists for a reviewed product, you will see a disclosure statement in that review. If a commercial relationship with a vendor changes our coverage in any way, we will disclose it explicitly in the relevant content.

Corrections policy

We correct factual errors promptly. When a correction changes a material claim, we note the correction and the date it was made in the affected content.

To report a factual error, contact us at editorial@propertysignal.com. Please include the specific claim, the URL where it appears, and the correct information with a source if available.
